why go plant-based?
reasons you should change what you eat
My top 10 reasons to go plant-based- in no particular order!
#1 – Makes you Happier
At least it did for me. I was always tired and had chronic stomach pain, bloating, constipation, and brain fog (to name a few). My health issues literally made me just want to spend all day on the couch watching TV and eating junk. I didn’t know what was causing my issues or how to fix them. Once I went plant-based most of my health problems went away. You become a hell of a lot happier when you aren’t spending your life in pain by the toilet and feeling like a lazy piece of S#*T. Eat plants =feel good = be happier!
#2- It Makes You More Creative
Before going plant-based I had no idea how to cook. I ate packaged food, stir-fries and I’m not even actually sure what else. Ohh like rice and noodle bowls. When I started getting more into cooking- I filled a creative void in my life. It was so fun to start experimenting with food…..and I was more confident cooking with vegan food because I didn’t have to worry about undercooking something and getting sick from it. It just became fun to discover new flavours, textures and just basically became my daily creative outlet!
#3 – It has the Power to Fix So Many Health Problems
I found that once I switched I literally got rid of my IBS, Candida, Yeast Infections, Chronic Fatigue, Sinus Infections, Allergies (I stopped sneezing all the time), Ear Infections, Constipation, Bloating, Gas, Diarrhea, Sleepiness, Blood Sugar Crashes & Brain Fog. I became energized and my digestion ran so much smoother!
Plant-based diets are also known to:
- prevent/reverse heart disease
- prevent type-2 diabetes
- manage high blood pressure
- prevent certain types of cancers
- reduce aches and pains
- Plant-based diets help with overall inflammation in the body too!
When you eat this way your body has the nutrients it needs so it can focus on healing! Why not try it out and see what it does for you? 🙂
#4 – No One Has to Suffer or Die For You to Eat
The thing about plants is that they don’t have feelings – they aren’t sentient beings. So we can eat them without feeling bad. Many animals are bred specifically for us to eat them, they live horrible lives, and are murdered just so we can eat them and it’s so unnecessary in this day and age. We have access to so much good plant-based food. Plus we can totally thrive off plants! There is also no humane way to kill an animal. If you think they’re dying peacefully- they’re not. Check out Earthling Ed. He really does a good job of showing you why we shouldn’t eat animals.
#5 Gives you Nice Shiny Hair and Better Skin
I wore extensions for years. When I was unhealthy my hair didn’t grow, it was thin and brittle. I honestly thought I was on my pathway to baldness in my early 20s. But now it’s nice and healthy and grows pretty quickly! Healthy body =healthy hair = happy me! Changing to a plant-based diet helped me with some of my acne and for others, it’s even managed to clear up their skin completely! Sometimes just quitting dairy alone will clear up people’s skin.
#6- You Can Eat Big Portions and Not Feel Guilty About It
When you eat a low-fat wholefood plant based diet it’s hard to overeat. Which was so helpful for me because I was an over-eater. The calories in unrefined whole foods are so much lower (especially if you’re skipping the oil like I do) so you can keep filling your plate with deliciously made fruits, veggies, beans, and grains!
#7 – Easier to Manage Your Weight
Lots of people experience weight loss when they go on a plant-based diet. It is much easier to keep the weight off on a plant-based diet too. I noticed my weight has stayed at a nice even healthy place during the last few years that I have been eating this way!
#8 – You’re Helping Save the Planet
Eating a plant-based diet means you stop contributing to animal agriculture which is having a devastating impact on the environment. Animal agriculture contributes to high levels of greenhouse gases that are a major cause of climate change. Growing food for livestock is contributing to the deforestation of land (and extinction of species) throughout the world :(.
Going plant-based is the best way you can help slow down climate change as an individual.

#9- It Can Turn off Gene Expression
Okay so apart from fixing my health issues I wanted to get healthier, because I have some things that run in my family, like depression, stroke, psoriasis, and weight problems. I just wanted to do everything I could to prevent getting any of these and I heard somewhere that eating healthier could turn off genes for certain things! This played a role in me intitially wanting to get healthier. A plant-based diet can help turn off bad genes and turn on good genes! Check out the link below for a deeper dive into how this works.
#10 – Makes You a More Compassionate Person
I honestly had never really been an animal person. I have nothing against them but I wasn’t a big animal lover. But after I went plant-based for my health, I started to look more into the animal rights side of things. AND ohmygod, the stuff that goes on with animals is seriously effed up. I would never wish that on anyone. Once I made the connection that animals were literally DYING/SUFFERING for our food, clothing, cosmetic, and entertainment needs I had a whole different outlook on life. Now I won’t even kill a spider- it’s just living its life- it doesn’t deserve to be stepped on because I don’t want it inside. Plus these animals are so scared and then we’re consuming the energy of these poor frightened dead animals. I don’t know much about spirituality but that’s gotta affect us on a spiritual and karmic level somehow.
It just made me more compassionate overall and I think that compassion ends up flooding into all areas of your life. A world full of compassionate people is bound to be a better one. Imagine if all the children now went vegan and developed a deep sense of compassion from a young age. The world would become a much more peaceful place as they grow up!
